Getting up from your desk to grab a coffee or a quick loo break is enough time for someone to walk past and see that sensitive email on your screen, or for an outsider to grab whatever they can from one of your many sensitive logged-in sites/programs. Locking your computer when you’re not there is one of the easiest ways you can help secure your personal and company data. It’s also one of those things that are so easy to forget to do!
Windows 10 can be set to automatically lock the screen when you walk away from it. No, it’s not through implanted trackers under your skin (yet), but by simply tethering your phone to your computer. Once it goes out of Bluetooth range, bam! locked!
Let’s do this:
1 – Tether your phone
- Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > Add Bluetooth or other device
- Select Bluetooth
- Find your phone (you may need to go into Bluetooth pairing on your phone to scan for devices) – Select your phone and follow the prompts on both devices
2 – Setup Dynamic Lock
- Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options
- Scroll down until you see the Dynamic Lock settings > Check “Allow Windows to automatically lock your device when you’re away”
Done! – just remember to take your phone with you when you walk away from your PC 🙂
